BRENTWOOD - The Suffolk County SPCA says it rescued two severely neglected dogs from a Brentwood backyard.

A pit bull and a possible Shih Tzu were discovered in a backyard on Whipple Street. Neighbors say they had apparently been there for several days.

The dogs were found without water or food, and were infested with fleas.

Both animals are still in the hospital, but one of the dogs is in bad shape and will require extensive care. The SCPA is asking for donations to help cover the costs.

Police are searching for the dogs' owners.
