WOODBURY - A big surprise for the canine world's most coveted crown.

The Scottish deerhound named Hickory has been named best in show at the Westminster dog show.

The 5-year-old dog from Virginia is the first of her breed to be America's top dog.

Hickory beat out almost 2,600 dogs for the title.

The dog show also featured about 80 dogs with a Long Island connection.

A beagle named Bridgette from Babylon and a giant Schnauzer from Smithtown both got awards of merit.
