ISLIP - Sen. Charles Schumer is pushing to turn Islip's MacArthur Airport into an international hub.

At a press conference today, Schumer urged U.S. Customs and Border Protection to allow a customs facility to be built, a necessary step if the airport were to become international.

Since 2007, the airport has seen a near 50 percent decrease in commercial flights. But by bringing more airlines, officials say business at MacArthur could take off.

Schumer hopes to get the plan off the ground in the next couple of months.
