WOODBURY - A Long Island school bus driver says he was recently fired for pulling over during a torrential downpour and helping three Nassau County police detectives.

George Daw says he was on a street that was quickly flooding and picked up the plain-clothes detectives while he had a 16-year-old student on the bus.

The company, Educational Bus Transportation, cited "poor job performance," "misuse of company vehicle" and "child endangerment" as its reasons for firing Daw.

Daw says the officers showed him identification before he let them on the bus. He says the road was flooding so quickly that he thought helping the detectives was the right thing to do.

Educational Bus Transportation had no comment on the incident. Det. Lt. Raymond Cote, however, says he would like to speak with the company, and hopes that he can help get Daw his job back.
