BRENTWOOD - Police are searching for the hit-and-run driver who killed a young man in Brentwood yesterday.

Police say Suffolk Community College student Kieran Smith, 21, was walking along the north service road of the LIE near Sagtikos Parkway after his car broke down.

Police believe Smith was then struck by a car and died on the side of the road. The driver never stopped. According to police, Smith's body was spotted by a passing motorist hours later.

Investigators are searching for any clues in the accident, which has become a troubling trend on Long Island recently.

As News 12 Long Island has reported, 19-year old Aaron Thomas was struck and killed back on March 2 after his car ran out of gas and he was walking along the Long Island Expressway in Dix Hills. Then on March 14, a sheriff?s deputy accidentally hit 18-year old William Schettino after the teen got out of his disabled car on the LIE?s HOV lane in Ronkonkoma.

Anyone with information about yesterday?s hit-and-run is asked to call Suffolk Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
