ORIENT POINT - Officials say the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy is threatening centuries of old farmland on the East End.

Driftwood Farms in Orient Point is one of five historic farms now facing an uncertain future.

Farmers tell Newsday that Sandy damaged or destroyed protective dikes and 800 acres of farmland were flooded with saltwater.

The farmers are now frantically working with elected officials to come up with money to cover repair costs.
