MILLER PLACE - A Shirley woman is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from two special needs home residents in Miller Place.
Suffolk police say 28-year-old Samantha Cuomo, who worked as a house manager in the home, stole $19,000 and used it to pay for bus trips, salon services and dresses.
According to court paperwork, Cuomo admitted to stealing the money, saying she made up cash receipts because she was overwhelmed with high bills.
Cuomo is the daughter of Steve Cuomo, who founded Rolling Thunder, a racing team for athletes with special needs.
Maryhaven, the agency that runs the home, says Cuomo has been fired, and the residents' accounts have been restored.
