SAYVILLE - ? A popular summer boat race is in jeopardy of being called off because it may not be safe enough.

The annual Battle of the Bay is set for this coming weekend in West Sayville.

The Coast Guard says it won?t issue a permit for the race until the organizers file a more detailed safety plan.

Two boaters were killed during an accident in the race in 2008. It is not clear what will happen to the event that is set to start on Friday.
