SMITHTOWN - Officials have announced that safety improvements are about to begin on a deadly stretch of Main Street in Smithtown. As News 12 Long Island has reported, three people, including 11-year-old Courtney Sipes, have been killed crossing the road. According to Newsday, one westbound lane will be closed so new traffic medians and turning lanes can be installed.
Construction will begin tomorrow.
