RIVERHEAD - A young Port Jefferson Station man pleaded guilty to four felonies in connection to a fatal motorcycle crash in Coram.

Investigators say Sabelo Ndala, 22, was high on marijuana and was on probation from a previous DWI conviction when the crash happened on Old Town Road in Coram in November 2015.

Motorcyclist Tom Heissenbuttel, 56, was killed in the crash.

As a part of his plea deal, Ndala will serve four to eight years in prison. The judge also revoked his license for life.

"To kill someone is a terrible thing," said Judge Stephen Braslow. "You going to have to live with that…knowing that it was preventable."

Ndala was originally going to get three to six years, but the victim's family, along with his motorcycle group, successfully lobbied for more prison time.
