SOUTH HUNTINGTON - Students and parents in the South Huntington School District are facing higher school taxes and fewer choices for kids in the new $140 million budget proposal.

The plan was approved by the board last night and would cut 17 teaching jobs and raise school taxes by nearly 6 percent.

Newsday says the plan would eliminate three high school varsity teams but spares middle school sports. Taxpayers will have the final say when they vote May 17.
