WOODBURY - Hundreds of runners pounded the pavement along Syosset Woodbury Community Park Sunday morning for the Integrated Medical Foundation's Blue Ribbon Run to fight prostate cancer.

The American Cancer Society says one in seven men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.

The Integrated Medical Foundation also offered free prostate screenings at the race.

Experts say early detection can save lives. But doctors and cancer survivors say many men are fearful of the side effects of treatment, and they don't get tested because of that.

"There have been great advances over the years and people shouldn't be fearful of those possible side effects because all of those possible outcomes are treatable," sasy Dr. Eric Mitchnick, of Advanced Urology Centers of New York.
