ROCKY POINT - A neighborhood in Rocky Point is creating a neighborhood watch group in the wake of a series of home burglaries in the area.

Police say eight homes in Rocky Point were burglarized this summer.

Roland Jackson started the program and says around 90 people have signed up already. He was told that he needs just 10 signatures to create the group within the town of Brookhaven.

Jackson says residents should be on alert for anything suspicious in the area so they can notify police. He also says they should alert each other if they notice a broken gate or open window on someone's property.

Brookhaven Councilwoman Jane Bonner says drugs were the driving force behind the recent rash of burglaries. Michael Caruso, 23, of Rocky Point, was arrested and charged in the cases.
