ROCKVILLE CENTRE - Hundreds gathered in Rockville Centre this morning to celebrate Easter.

Church bells rang out at St. Agnes Cathedral as Bishop William Murphy celebrated the 11 a.m. Mass.

Monsignor William Koenig spoke to News 12 Long Island about the meaning of Easter.

"Easter is the great feast in which we celebrate the rising of Christ, how Christ conquered sin and death and rose to life," Koenig says. "And it's really our feast because by Christ doing that and us baptized into the death and resurrection of Christ, we, too, have a new life."
