MINEOLA - A Hicksville man paroled after serving 10 years for murdering his best friend was sentenced Wednesday to seven years on new charges.
Robert D'Andrea served 10 years of a seven years-to-life sentence for the 1993 shotgun murder of Bryan Levine. D'Andrea was 15 at the time of the murder; Levine was 16.
As News 12 Long Island has reported, D'Andrea was arrested for the murder in 1999 and treated as a juvenile during his trial.
Police say D'Andrea violated his parole in May after he was arrested in Island Park with heroin and a loaded, unlicensed handgun in his car.
Matt Levine, Bryan's father, was in the Mineola courtroom Wednesday. He asked to address the court, but was denied by the judge.
A statement from Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas said in part, "Our community will be a safer place with this defendant behind bars."
