RIVERHEAD - Residents out on the East End kept a watchful eye on the tides amid Thursday night's storm.

The Peconic River overflowed its banks at around 8 a.m. Thursday, but many homeowners decided to stay put. The weather event, although not short-lived, is expected to be far less intense than last month's blizzard.

Crews had been preparing roadways throughout the day by pre-treating them with brine solution.

Snow totals could reach up to 6 inches by the end of Friday.
