MILLER PLACE - A Miller Place man has taken his wheelchair across Long Island for 15 years in a "Ride for Life."

Chris Pendergrast's mission has now become a community's fight to raise money and awareness for Lou Gherig's disease.

Pendergrast has been able to fight ALS for 18 years and his family and friends believe it's because he had a mission and has continued teaching thousands of students.Within the last 15 years, almost 60 patients who were part of the Ride for Life have passed away. This weekend be sure to join us for our "Ride for Life" half-hour special as News 12 Long Island looks at the organization's 15 years of fighting to find a cure for ALS.
