HUNTINGTON STATION - Residents are split on whether to reopen Jack Abrams Intermediate School after it was closed due to violence in the area.
At the second annual Huntington Awareness Day and Parade, organizers tried to unite the community toward reopening the shuttered school.
Many residents say crime has calmed down considerably in the area and the closed school has led to overcrowding in other schools.
Some residents say that just reopening the school won't fix the deeper issues that led to the violence to begin with.
The school board is considering options that include reopening the school at some point but there is no timeline on when a decision will be made.
