RIVERHEAD - An East End community says a developer has left them with little privacy after clearing acres of trees for development.

Robert Hall, of Riverhead, says he can't believe how many acres of trees were chopped down on a 42-acre site along Route 58 in Riverhead. The property is the future site of Costco, a gas station and other stores.

The developer was allowed to clear trees all the way up to the property line of a neighboring senior community because current town code calls for small "buffers" of only 10 feet between commercial and residential properties.

Now, residents say they want a wall between their homes and the site.

The town is currently working on changing the code to prevent this from happening in the future.
