MINEOLA - Nassau residents lined up at a County Legislature meeting to vent their frustrations about deep budget cuts to social service programs. As News 12 Long Island has reported, $40 million in county funding was stripped from 49 of Nassau's youth and social programs as of July 6. County Executive Ed Mangano (R-Nassau) says the funds were needed to pay property owners their overdue tax refunds. Mangano and Republican lawmakers blame the Democrats for not agreeing to their borrowing plan. The debate has dragged on along party lines for months.
