FARMINGVILLE - Residents packed Brookhaven Town Hall tonight to try and stop the planned closure of the Holtsville Wildlife and Ecology Center.

The center is slated to close under the Town of Brookhaven's planned budget cuts. It's estimated the closure would save the town about $900,000 a year.

Residents say they do not want to see the facility that has been open for three decades close.

Many say they would be willing to see an admission fee charged to make up for the cost instead of just closing the facility. The wildlife center's board is scheduled to meet with the acting town supervisor tomorrow.
