Residents begin Fourth of July weekend getaways

Many Long Island residents began their holiday weekend getaways Thursday. AAA is expecting the most Fourth of July travelers since 2007.

WOODBURY - Many Long Island residents began their holiday weekend getaways Thursday.

AAA is expecting the most Fourth of July travelers since 2007.

Nearly 42 million Americans are expected to take a trip for the Fourth of July. AAA says most of those people will be driving.

For those planning to travel by car or boat, law enforcement officials across Long Island are reminding everyone that they will be out in force looking for anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
