BAYPORT - The 12th annual holiday light show in Bayport is not sitting well with some Bayport neighbors.

Residents who live along Lakeview Avenue say they are worried that gridlock could hinder the response time for emergency service vehicles.

The show is hosted each year by the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County, and invites people to drive down a mile-long stretch featuring holiday displays and vignettes. The Girl Scouts say their fundraiser helps low-income families take part in scouting.

The light show attracts thousands of visitors each holiday season.

Girl Scout officials issued a statement saying, "Our plan and procedures for the light show, including traffic management and emergencies, were designed in consultation with the Suffolk County police, Islip Town fire marshal and local fire departments."

The statement goes on to say that the plans were approved by those agencies, and that police are on site each night of the show.

Because of recent rain, the show has been extended to Dec. 26, between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
