WOODBURY - Gov. Andrew Cuomo is likely to remove the DREAM Act from his $141 billion state budget, according to multiple media outlets.

The DREAM Act would extend financial aid to some students who are illegally in the country. A number of immigrant advocacy organizations on Long Island call the governor's exclusion unacceptable.

"We have been waiting for too long to have access to higher education," says Jackeline Saavedra, of the Empire Justice Center.

The DREAM Act is supported by the Democrat-led Assembly, but has been rejected by the Republican Senate. It is currently tied in the budget to an education tax credit.

A spokeswoman for the governor would not say if he plans to remove it from the budget.

The budget deadline is April 1.
