WOODBURY - Long Island Congressman Gary Ackerman (D-NY) is weighing in on the Egyptian revolution and what will happen now that President Hosni Mubarak has stepped down from power.
Eighteen days of mass pro-democracy protests forced Mubarak to hand over power to the military, ending nearly three decades of authoritarian rule.
Ackerman is the top Democrat on the House Subcommittee on the Middle East. He says he is hopeful democracy can take hold in Egypt and spread throughout the Middle East.
Still, he says he's concerned about what this could mean for Egypt's long-standing peace treaty with Israel.
