FARMINGVILLE - The Red Cross is working overtime to provide adequate shelter ahead of Hurricane Sandy's landfall.

Sachem East High School is the setting for one of the many shelters set up all along the Island. Volunteers stress that if someone doesn't have a place to evacuate to, a Red Cross shelter is the safest place they can be.

As of 11 p.m. Sunday night, volunteers say they have registered 57 people for the Sachem site. There are 1,000 cots available as well as plenty of blankets and snacks.
