ROCKVILLE CENTRE - A rally was held this afternoon in Rockville Centre to protest Sen. Dean Skelos' recent vote for the NY SAFE Act.

Some say the new gun law passed last month chips away the constitutional rights of law abiding citizens.

Members of the Conservative Society for Action say New York's new gun law violates their Second Amendment rights to bear arms. They also say that the law was passed in the middle of the night, so to speak, without letting the public comment.

Sen. Skelos told News 12 Long Island that most New Yorker's recognize that what was ultimately passed was a more comprehensive, more balanced and better bill because Senate Republicans insisted on doing something about illegal guns, including requiring stronger penalties for those who use a gun in a crime or on school grounds. It also ensured that those who pose a danger to themselves or others never have access to a gun.
