Rally held ahead of Senate vote on $50.5B in Sandy aid
WASHINGTON - Thousands of Long Islanders struggling to recover from Sandy could be a step closer to getting the relief they need.
The Senate is expected to vote on the long-delayed $50.5 billion Sandy aid package this evening.
Sen. Charles Schumer hosted a rally today with Island Park residents in support of the vote today. Officials say 60 percent of the businesses in Island Park are still closed due to Sandy.

If approved, Schumer says $5.45 billion from the aid package will be put toward rebuilding the coastlines and waterways.
