MELVILLE - Editorial cartoonist Walt Handelsman is leaving his job at Newsday after 12 years.

Handelsman, who has been with Newsday since 2001, has won two Pulitzer Prizes for his work, one of them with Newsday. His cartoons are seen in more than 200 newspapers nationwide.

Handelsman says he tries to illustrate cartoons dealing with issues "that everyone is talking about around the kitchen table." He says he's hardly received any complaints from his subjects and some politicians have even asked for copies of his cartoons to hang in their offices.

Handelsman is leaving Newsday to work at a newspaper in New Orleans.
