BROOKHAVEN - Town of Brookhaven officials held a public hearing last night at Brookhaven Town Hall in Farmingville on the future of the Gordon Heights Fire District.

Consultants have suggested dramatic cost-cutting measures, including a proposal to dissolve the district or drastically slash its $1.4 million budget.

Countless numbers of people argued at the meeting that the Gordon Heights Fire District is needed and any consideration of disbanding it will put lives at risk.

Others argued that the fire department, which covers about 900 homes in its district, is simply to costly.
