HEMPSTEAD - ? A Hempstead Public Safety officer has been found not guilty of aggravated vehicular manslaughter but guilty of aggravated DWI. As News 12 Long Island has reported, prosecutors say Robert Core was on duty in his cruiser when he struck and killed Eddie Cotto in front of Nassau University Medical Center last July.

Core's blood alcohol level was .16 more than three hours after the fatal accident. However, a judge said the district attorney could not prove that Cotto died as a result of Core being drunk. Core now faces a maximum of one year behind bars.
