PSEG: High power supply charge due to weather

WOODBURY - PSEG is telling customers to expect to pay more for next month's bill due to a higher power supply charge because of the weather.

Average customers can expect to pay about $5.25 more in February and March, according to Newsday. It marks the highest power supply charge since 2005.

It comes on the heels of an increase of about $17 for most customers earlier this month.

Long Island was supposed to get a three-year rate freeze when PSEG took over. However, that doesn't include power supply charges.

PSEG puts the blame for the increase on the rising cost of natural gas that powers its generators.

Experts say the price of gas has risen lately because of the frigid temperatures that have gripped the country.
