Prosecutors: Islip garbage truck driver used drugs before work

ISLIP - Prosecutors say a garbage truck driver for the Town of Islip has admitted to taking Vicodin and smoking marijuana before getting behind the wheel of his truck and driving around residential blocks.Michael Maglione, 32, of Mastic Beach, was arrested yesterday afternoon during a routine safety inspection. Suffolk police say that when he arrived to have his truck inspected, he appeared to be under the influence of drugs.Maglione had marijuana, OxyContin and codeine on him, police say. The truck he was driving has been pulled off the road because its brakes were only working at 50-percent capacity, according to officials. In court today, Maglione's bail was set at $10,000 bond and a judge suspended his license. A spokesman for the Town of Islip says that even if the contracted sanitation company keeps Maglione on the job, he will never again be permitted to work within town limits.
