HUNTINGTON - Lawmakers are considering banning smoking in Suffolk County parks, and the idea has some residents fired up.Legislator William Spencer, who is also an ear, nose and throat doctor, wrote the resolution to ban smoking in all county parks. He says it's not about restricting rights, but about public safety. While some Suffolk residents support the ban, others say it's a bit of an overreaction. Libertarian state committee member Chris Garvey says the ban will take away people's rights. New York City has already banned smoking in its parks and beaches. On Long Island, smoking is banned in Hempstead town parks.
