SETAUKET - A special program lets kids practice their reading skills on some excellent listeners who are all ears.

The Doggie Reading Club makes stops at local libraries and schools. Children are invited to read aloud to therapy dogs one-on-one.

The dogs are screened and certified as safe for children. They wear harnesses that kids put written notes into, telling about their reading experiences.

Eileen and Malibu were the furry listeners who recently visited the Emma S. Clark Memorial Library in Setauket. They heard stories from several children who say they were delighted by the experience.
