RIVERHEAD - Pre-trial testimony today focused on the stolen bag at the center of a case involving the Suffolk police chief.

Christopher Loeb, 27, of Smithtown is accused of stealing a duffel bag out of Suffolk Police Chief James Burke’s SUV.

Detective Thomas Cottingham was asked questions today about what was inside the bag, including whether Loeb had told the detective that it contained pornography. Cottingham said he didn’t recall Loeb saying that, but did say that Loeb did talk about a porno that day and said it was “nasty.”

Cottingham testified yesterday that he saw Burke take his stolen duffel bag from Loeb’s home in Smithtown after his arrest.

Burke is under investigation by the FBI over claims he beat Loeb the day of his arrest while he was held at the Fourth Precinct.
