MASSAPEQUA PARK - A Massapequa Park man who died in a prison camp during the Korean War has received a proper burial at Arlington National Cemetery after 60 years.
Peter Kubic vanished while serving overseas in 1951 at the age of 22. Loved ones say they received the unexpected news last week that his remains had finally been identified.
Kubic's sister, 84-year-old Elizabeth Kelleher, says it took 42 years for the North Korean government to turn over his remains to the United States, along with a few hundred other soldiers. She says it was another 16 years before DNA technology could identify him.
