EAST HAMPTON - An alcohol ban could be put into effect at two Amagansett beaches this summer.

East Hampton Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell says that many residents brought their gripes to the town board, complaining of rowdy behavior and public drunkenness at the Indian Wells and Atlantic Avenue beaches.

The board is now considering banning alcohol during lifeguard hours at the beaches, which are less than a mile from one another.

Some residents don't agree with the ban.

Lynn Lurie, of East Hampton, and her son Barnett say most people who spend time at the beach drink responsibly. They told News 12 Long Island that it would be a shame if they lost that privilege.

"The few times I've seen people, I've always been sorry I didn't bring my own bottle," she says.
