PORT JEFFERSON - ? The north shore of Suffolk County is bracing for a potential storm surge due to Sandy. The Village of Port Jefferson has ordered a state of the emergency and will be closing some roads that lead down to the lower part of the area to keep people safe from rising waters.

News 12 Long Island?s Elyse Evans says the winds are starting to pick in the area and the water is beginning to rise.

Port Jefferson ferry service has been suspended today and tomorrow due to the weather.
