SYOSSET - About two thirds of the Long Islanders who responded to a recent News 12/ Hofstra University poll had a favorable opinion of Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-N.Y.)
According to the survey, 18 percent of responders said Cuomo was doing an excellent job, followed by 47 percent who said he was doing a good job. Twenty-seven percent of Long Islanders rated the governor's job performance as fair, and only 4 percent said he was doing a poor job.
Stanley Klein, a political science professor at C.W. Post, says Cuomo's high approval ratings can be attributed to his ability to get the dysfunctional state government to work.
During one of Cuomo's visits to Long Island earlier this year, the governor said he has managed to establish a good relationship with the residents of the state by doing exactly what he promised them he would do.
Overall, 65 percent of respondents had a favorable opinion of Cuomo, compared to 43 percent in February. ResultsSummary Report
