Politicians remember former NYC Mayor Ed Koch
WOODBURY - Politicians are remembering former New York City Mayor Ed Koch in the wake of his death.
The 88-year-old died yesterday of congestive heart failure. Koch served three terms as mayor from 1978-1989, and he is credited for steering New York back from the brink of financial ruin.
President Barack Obama called Koch a "quintessential New Yorker."
The Clinton family said people couldn't help but like him, regardless of political affiliation.
Sen. Alfonse D'Amato said the mayor never shied away from a good fight.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is set to speak at Koch's funeral Monday. Koch's family will sit shiva at Gracie Mansion on Tuesday. He will be buried in Manhattan.
