EAST GARDEN CITY - Firefighters from 10 departments responded to a raging fire at a brand new luxury apartment complex in East Garden City today. The flames erupted around 11 a.m. at the brand new Avalon Bay luxury apartment complex on Stewart Avenue. No one was living in the building at the time of the fire, but officials say some construction workers were inside at the time. They managed to escape.Police now say the fire was accidentally started by a worker. They say no criminality is believed to have been a factor. One firefighter was hospitalized with minor injuries.
