OCEANSIDE - Police say they are stepping up patrols after the ninth senior citizen distracted robbery happened yesterday in Nassau County.

The robbery occurred on Academy Street in Oceanside around noon. According to officials, a woman lured the 89-year-old victim into her backyard posing as an employee from a fence company. That's when police say the woman's accomplice ran inside her house and stole jewelry and cash.

Officials are advising residents to call police if they are approached by someone that says they do home repairs.

Police are asking those with information to call Nassau Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
