WAINSCOTT - Police have reported a disturbing sex attack involving two teen boys at a rehabilitation center in Wainscott.

East Hampton police say an 18-year-old was sodomized by another teen with a broomstick handle at the Phoenix House.

The incident happened yesterday evening at the drug rehab and treatment center on Industrial Road.

Officials say Joseph Cardinali, 16, of Rockville Centre, is now charged with aggravated sexual abuse.

The victim underwent surgery at Southampton Hospital.

No one with the Phoenix House would comment on camera, but the group released a statement confirming that a "serious incident" took place at its facility. It says the incident was reported to the authorities and adds that it's conducting an internal investigation to "ensure that we provide a safe environment for our clients."
