HEMPSTEAD - Police say a teen was shot near a park in Hempstead last night. 

According to police, the incident happened near Elm and Laurel avenues just before 10 p.m. on Wednesday.  

The location is right near Campbell Park and just blocks from Hempstead High School.

Police say an unidentified 19-year-old was standing in the street when two men on bikes fired at him.

The teen was shot in the leg and taken to NUMC.

The injury is not life threatening.
