Police: Teen shot in Long Beach; 2nd teen arrested

LONG BEACH - Police say a 17-year-old boy was shot in the chest this afternoon at the Long Island Rail Road bus depot station in Long Beach, and a suspect is in custody. The spot where the shooting happened is directly across the road from Long Beach police headquarters. Officers say they saw the group of teens fighting right after they heard gunshots ring out. Authorities say 17-year-old Rodney Arnold was arrested at the scene and is facing attempted murder charges. Police say three other people who were allegedly involved were chased down and arrested several blocks from the scene. The victim was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital and is expected to be OK. His identity has not been released, but officials say he is a sophomore at Long Beach High School. The school activated its emergency call system to notify parents of the shooting and to say students' bags would be checked upon arrival tomorrow morning as a precaution.
