Police tap public to nab suspect in gas station holdups

Authorities renewed their efforts today to catch the gunman responsible for 10 gas station holdups and one death in Nassau County.

Police say they will be driving around billboard trucks through the neighborhoods where the suspect hit. The billboards will advertise a $35,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest.

JERICHO - Authorities renewed their efforts today to catch the gunman responsible for 10 gas station holdups and one death in Nassau County.

Nassau Crime Stoppers is offering up to $35,000 for information that leads to an arrest - $25,000 for the murder and $10,000 for the robberies. A billboard advertising the reward will be driven around communities hit by the suspect.

As News 12 has reported, Nassau police believe the same man is responsible for 10 gas station holdups in Jericho, Westbury and Hicksville. They also believe he shot and killed Hany Award, a BP gas station attendant in Jericho, back on Jan. 28.

According to police, the suspect is black and in his 20s. In the holdups, he has worn black Nike clothing and carried a black or silver revolver.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call 1-800-244-TIPS.
