WOODBURY - Nassau and Suffolk police are stepping up anti-terror patrols as part of an effort to keep the Fourth of July holiday weekend safe.

Officials say there is no specific threat in either county at this time, but add that they are not taking any chances during the upcoming holiday weekend.

They say there will be more special operations and criminal intelligence response personnel at area malls and other crowded places, as well as stepped up security near critical infrastructure.

Nassau police are also monitoring social media for potential threats, and are asking residents to download the Nassau Crime Stoppers app to submit tips from smartphones.

Nassau police will also have increased DWI patrols on the roads and BWI patrols on the waterways.

Suffolk County Chief of Police Stuart Cameron says officers are continually trained in rapid deployment techniques, and the department is coordinating with private security firms that monitor "soft targets" like businesses, malls and clubs.
