WOODBURY - Police say two women who were enjoying an outdoor lunch had their purses stolen in Woodbury.

The incident took place at Butera's Restaurant on Jericho Turnpike around 3 p.m. yesterday.

According to police, Anthony Grant, 24, of Inwood, grabbed the pocketbooks and jumped into a car stopped at a light and told the driver to take off.

Witnesses followed Grant and stopped him from getting away, police say.

Both pocketbooks were recovered and no injuries were reported.

Grant is charged with two counts of grand larceny and reckless endangerment.
