BAY SHORE - A pregnant woman was found shot to death outside a house in Bay Shore Saturday night.

Police say Milagro Canjura was shot multiple times in her car in the driveway of her friend’s home on Stein Drive just before 9 p.m.

The 31-year-old was rushed to the hospital, but she and her unborn baby were both pronounced dead.

Carmen Martinez says Canjura used to live in the house and came over to pick up her mail. Martinez says the mail contained letters from Canjura's husband, who she says has been in jail for the last month. Neighbors told News 12 it was part of Canjura's routine, where she would read the letters from her husband as she sat in her car.

Martinez says she and her daughter were in the house when the shooting took place.

Canjura was six months along. Neighbors tell News 12 that she had celebrated her baby shower just last week at the home where the shooting happened.

Police have not yet made an arrest or named any possible suspects.

Suffolk detectives confirmed to News 12 that there was a shooting on Stein Drive two weeks ago, but not at the site of Canjura’s murder.

Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
